Why is Focus Dog not free?

Last updated:

Focus Dog is available as a freemium app. That means a lot of features are free to everyone, while certain features sit behind a paywall.

Why? Because otherwise I couldn’t afford to keep working on it. Who would pay for my groceries, for example?

Making money as an indie developer is genuinely hard. Did you know that only about 5% of the millions of apps on the stores are actually profitable businesses? To put it plainly: I can’t pay my rent from Focus Dog, so I have to work somewhere else as well.

It’s a little sad that I have to write this in an FAQ, and a little weird that some people assume every digital product or service should be free.

So I’ll ask: who should pay the people behind the screens, building the things you use, if you don’t want to pay for them?
